okay... i dont get it... why is it so hard for me to find an answer to 'how to install a calculator' ?? lol --i am far from a beginner, i have although only been using linux for about a year, but ive always learned fast, and consider myself quite technologically advanced, and yet always 'still learning'..
i apologize, and i really do hate that I had to create an account (well, that part i didn't mind) just to ask a question that i fear is far too simple to have had just caused me to lose the last 45minutes or so, searching non-stop (til now), for a simple answer..
ive always followed the generally standard forum rule of putting in a good amount of search-time before asking a question.. and as that rule implies, ive nearly always found a solution. and in most cases would never DREAM of asking such a...seemingly..common...or non-'system-specific' to only my machine.. normally it has been asked. and in this case too, it was, i found two posts, one here, one elsewhere.. the one from here was in 2009-- BTr4 i believe? (maybe 3..idk). but it said to use: apt-get install kcalc-kde3 and the other post said ..kcalc-kde (w/o the tailing 3).
--neither of those work (package/s not found), and like one said, if u try just apt-get insatll kcalc, the software it asks to install is 200-300MB (i believe probably installing the whole kde desktop--which i do not want)
i dont think i really want kcalc either really.... i need a gnome version.... anyone know how to get a gnome calculator installed?
so im stumped.. i have although learned from my searching, that we can use a python sub(?)-console as a calculator as well as--what i did already know of--using bash.
i do favor command line over many gui alternatives, but using it for calculator purposes seems like a bit too-far for me. i use a calculator for a wide variety of quick processes, and sometimes favor the ability to quickly use my mouse to 'type'/click the numbers and get back to what i was doing, without going as far as pulling out my keyboard-slider-drawer to using it; when at times it could be achieveable with only the mouse. --and i dont feel like i should have to VMbox an alternate os for this either, or boot down and switch os's--all of these options strip away the purpose of why i want to use the mouse in this situation.
im hoping someone can point me in the right direction.... im nearly speechless that there is not one installed pre-packaged.
thanks in advance..
