Well first at all...sorry for this thread guys but I´m really tired after 1 week and yes, I know that I´m noob =(
Some university friends and I want to learn about IT security and the school is simple dont give us nothing
in this field, so we decide to start here. The problem is that I cant install BackTrack in my desktop, after a
"sucesfull" instalation I reboot my comp and after that when I want go to the GUI mode with startx (yes,
after login with root) the system show me the next message:
(EE) intel (0): No valid modes.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration
Fatal server error: no screens found
ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
xinit: No such file or directory (errno2): unable to connect to X server
Xinit: No such process(errno3):Server error.
I think that was some problem with the x server so I try some options after login with root, I will try to resume my failed solutions:
-----------------------------
tel init 5
The program 'tel' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: apt-get install orville-write. You will have to enable the component
called 'universe'
So we install tel and then run again tel init 5 but we get this:
No such tty
-----------------------------
twm
The program 'twm' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: apt-get install orville-write. You will have to enable the component
called 'universe'
So I install tel and then run again tel init 5 but we get this:
Unable to open display ""
----------------------------
gnome-session
**(gnome-session:1381):WARNING **: Cannot open display
----------------------------
apt-get install X* Xorg*
And here I got a massive mesagges code like the matrix...
I get infinite mesagges for about 10 mins and I reboot the comp several times with the same results:
Note, slecting (a lot of code with some like IP numbers, X* mesagges but we cant read a single file, the display
send like 100 lines per second and I think that was cycling).
-----------------------------
Yep I already try to quit the backtrack of the partion, reinstall again, try with different DVD, download again,
etc....always is the same so now I think that is a prob of hardware but I dont know what to do or even
where can I start =/
I´m trying with a desktop with windows 7 (I´m installing back track in a different partion with automatic
settings) architecture 64x and I are giving 400 Gb.
My ISO is with gnome...I already try to install KDE but the system send me a mesage of dont find the X server
or something like that.
So now please guys help me if you can =) You were helping a noob but with real desire to learn, and yep
sorry if I do a very jerk question but I already try it 1 week with no solution.
Thank for your time and sorry for the bad english too.
P.D. My comp is a Gateway 64x, model SX2840 intel core i5 650 @ 3.20GHz, 6 GB RAM DDR3 and 1TB HD
