This Metasploit module exploits a stack based buffer overflow in the BEA Weblogic Apache plugin. The connector fails to properly handle specially crafted HTTP POST requests, resulting a buffer overflow due to the insecure usage of sprintf. Currently, this module works over Windows systems without DEP, and has been tested with Windows 2000 / XP. In addition, the Weblogic Apache plugin version is fingerprinted with a POST request containing a specially crafted Transfer-Encoding header.

A vulnerability is caused due to an integer overflow error in the vclmi.dll module when allocating memory for an embedded image object. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via, for example using a specially crafted JPEG object within a DOC file. OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 and 3.4 beta users are advised to upgrade to Apache OpenOffice 3.4. Users who are unable to upgrade immediately should be cautious when opening untrusted documents.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0523-01 - The libpng packages contain a library of functions for creating and manipulating PNG image format files. A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way libpng processed tEXt chunks in PNG image files. An attacker could create a specially-crafted PNG image file that, when opened, could cause an application using libpng to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the application. Users of libpng should upgrade to these updated packages, which correct this issue. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, they contain a backported patch. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, they upgrade libpng to version 1.2.49. All running applications using libpng must be restarted for the update to take effect.

Packet Storm Security Exploits
This Metasploit module allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by exploiting the Snort service via crafted SMB traffic. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error within the DCE/RPC preprocessor when reassembling SMB Write AndX requests, which may result a stack-based buffer overflow with a specially crafted packet sent on a network that is monitored by Snort. Vulnerable versions include Snort 2.6.1, 2.7 Beta 1 and SourceFire IDS 4.1, 4.5 and 4.6. Any host on the Snort network may be used as the remote host. The remote host does not need to be running the SMB service for the exploit to be successful.

A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way libpng processed compressed chunks in PNG image files. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, they upgrade libpng to version 1.2.48. All running applications using libpng must be restarted for the update to take effect.

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-021 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Adobe Reader X. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within 2d.x3d, which is Adobe Reader's code responsible for processing BMP files. When passing a negative size parameter in the 'colors' field, a series of signed comparisons will be averted, and the overly large size parameter is passed to a memcpy(). This will cause a heap-based buffer overflow, allowing an attacker to execute code under the context of the user.

Packet Storm Security Exploits
This Metasploit module exploits a stack buffer overflow in HP OpenView Network Node Manager 7.53 prior to NNM_01213 without the SSRT100649 hotfix. By specifying a long 'textFile' argument when calling the 'webappmon.exe' CGI program, an attacker can cause a stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code. The vulnerable code is within the "_OVBuildPath" function within "ov.dll". There are no stack cookies, so exploitation is achieved by overwriting the saved return address. The vulnerability is due to the use of the function "_OVConcatPath" which finally uses "strcat" in a insecure way. User controlled data is concatenated to a string which contains the OpenView installation path. To achieve reliable exploitation a directory traversal in OpenView5.exe (OSVDB 44359) is being used to retrieve OpenView logs and disclose the installation path.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-008 - Off-by-one error in the decode_xs function in Unicode/Unicode.xs in the Encode module before 2.44, as used in Perl before 5.15.6, might allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service via a crafted Unicode string, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow. Eval injection in the Digest module before 1.17 for Perl allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary commands via the new constructor. The updated packages have been patched to correct these issues.

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-016 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of HP Diagnostics server. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the way the HP Diagnostics server handles incoming packets with 0x00000000 as the first 32-bit value. The magentservice.exe process listens on port 23472 by default. It will eventually take that first dword, decrease it by one and use it as a size value to copy data into a stack buffer. The resulting stack-based buffer overflow can result in remote code execution under the system user.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-004 - Multiple vulnerabilities has been found and corrected in t1lib. A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way AFM font file parser, used for rendering of DVI files, in GNOME evince document viewer and other products, processed line tokens from the given input stream. A remote attacker could provide a DVI file, with embedded specially-crafted font file, and trick the local user to open it with an application using the AFM font parser, leading to that particular application crash or, potentially, arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the user running the application. Various other issues were also addressed.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-003 - Integer overflow in the ap_pregsub function in server/util.c in the Apache HTTP Server 2.0.x through 2.0.64 and 2.2.x through 2.2.21, when the mod_setenvif module is enabled, allows local users to gain privileges via a.htaccess file with a crafted SetEnvIf directive, in conjunction with a crafted HTTP request header, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow. The mod_proxy module in the Apache HTTP Server 1.3.x through 1.3.42, 2.0.x through 2.0.64, and 2.2.x through 2.2.21, when the Revision 1179239 patch is in place, does not properly interact with use of RewriteRule and ProxyPassMatch pattern matches for configuration of a reverse proxy, which allows remote attackers to send requests to intranet servers via a malformed URI containing an \@ character and a : character in invalid positions. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2011-3368. The updated packages have been patched to correct these issues.

Packet Storm Security Advisories
Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in Sterling Trader, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in Base.exe when processing network requests (code 176). This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted packet sent to a certain TCP port. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but requires guessing the TCP port, which is dynamically assigned. Version 7.0.2 is affected.

This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted packet sent to a certain TCP port. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but requires guessing the TCP port, which is dynamically assigned. Version 7.0.2 is affected.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2011-1811-01 - The netpbm packages contain a library of functions which support programs for handling various graphics file formats, including .pbm, .pgm, .pnm, .ppm, and others. Two heap-based buffer overflow flaws were found in the embedded JasPer library, which is used to provide support for Part 1 of the JPEG 2000 image compression standard in the jpeg2ktopam and pamtojpeg2k tools. An attacker could create a malicious JPEG 2000 compressed image file that could cause jpeg2ktopam to crash or, potentially, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running jpeg2ktopam. These flaws do not affect pamtojpeg2k.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2011-167 - A vulnerability has been discovered and corrected in gimp. The LZW decompressor in the LWZReadByte function in giftoppm.c in the David Koblas GIF decoder in PBMPLUS, as used in the gif_read_lzw function in filter/image-gif.c in CUPS before 1.4.7, the LZWReadByte function in plug-ins/common/file-gif-load.c in GIMP 2.6.11 and earlier, the LZWReadByte function in img/gifread.c in XPCE in SWI-Prolog 5.10.4 and earlier, and other products, does not properly handle code words that are absent from the decompression table when encountered, which allows remote attackers to trigger an infinite loop or a heap-based buffer overflow, and possibly execute arbitrary code, via a crafted compressed stream. The updated packages have been patched to correct these issues.
