Hack a Day
We think most would agree that the Microsoft Kinect is a miraculous piece of hardware. The affordable availability of a high-quality depth camera was the genesis of a myriad of hacks. And now it seems that type of data is making an intriguing 3D display possible. What you see above is a 3D monitor concept [...]

Hack a Day
While watching his thin client boot up [Nav] noticed that it’s using some type of Linux kernel. He wondered if it were possible to run a full-blow desktop distribution on the device. A little poking around he got a Debian desktop distribution running on a thin client. The hardware he’s working with is an HP [...]

Hack a Day
[Michael Chen] found himself in possession of a thoroughly broken laptop. The hinges connecting the screen to the body of the computer were shot, and the battery was non-functional. After a bit of thinking he decided that it wouldn’t take much to resurrect the hardware by turning it into a desktop machine. At the core of this [...]

Packet Storm Security Exploits
This Metasploit module exploits a vulnerability found in AOL Desktop 9.6's Tool\rich.rct component. By supplying a long string of data in the hyperlink tag, rich.rct copies this data into a buffer using a strcpy function, which causes an overflow, and results in arbitrary code execution.

Hack a Day
Here’s a desktop you can take with you. [Rbean] built it at a hackerspace in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (go Badgers!) using very basic materials and techniques. The utilitarian construction of the wooden body reminds us of Cub Scout tool box projects. It features an open space in the top which house the keyboard and mouse during [...]

Hack a Day
[Bart] managed to get his hands on a Macbook Air for free. The catch was that the monitor hinge was broken and the laptop wasn’t in too great of a condition. Rather than scrapping it or using it as a cake cutter, he decided to turn it into a keyboard PC. By removing the internals [...]
