Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0388-01 - Mozilla Thunderbird is a standalone mail and newsgroup client. Several flaws were found in the processing of malformed content. Malicious content could cause Thunderbird to crash or, potentially, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running Thunderbird. Two flaws were found in the way Thunderbird parsed certain Scalable Vector Graphics image files. An HTML mail message containing a malicious SVG image file could cause an information leak, or cause Thunderbird to crash or, potentially, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running Thunderbird.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0140-01 - Mozilla Thunderbird is a standalone mail and newsgroup client. A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way Thunderbird handled PNG images. An HTML mail message or remote content containing a specially-crafted PNG image could cause Thunderbird to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running Thunderbird. All Thunderbird users should upgrade to this updated package, which corrects this issue. After installing the update, Thunderbird must be restarted for the changes to take effect.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0085-01 - Mozilla Thunderbird is a standalone mail and newsgroup client. A flaw was found in the processing of malformed content. An HTML mail message containing malicious content could cause Thunderbird to crash or, potentially, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running Thunderbird. The same-origin policy in Thunderbird treated http://example.com and http://[example.com] as interchangeable. A malicious script could possibly use this flaw to gain access to sensitive information that may be included in HTTP proxy error replies, generated in response to invalid URLs using square brackets.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2011-1243-01 - Mozilla Thunderbird is a standalone mail and newsgroup client. It was found that a Certificate Authority issued a fraudulent HTTPS certificate. This update renders any HTTPS certificates signed by that CA as untrusted, except for a select few. The now untrusted certificates that were issued before July 1, 2011 can be manually re-enabled and used again at your own risk in Thunderbird; however, affected certificates issued after this date cannot be re-enabled or used. Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2011-068 - Several invalid HTTPS certificates were placed on the certificate blacklist to prevent their misuse. Users on a compromised network could be directed to sites using the fraudulent certificates and mistake them for the legitimate sites. This could deceive them into revealing personal information such as usernames and passwords. It may also deceive users into downloading malware if they believe it's coming from a trusted site. The NSS and NSPR packages were updated to the latest versions as well as the rootcerts packages providing the latest root CA certs from mozilla as of 2011/03/23. The firefox packages were updated to the latest 3.6.16 version which is not vulnerable to this issue. The mozilla thunderbird 3.1.9 packages were patched with the same fix as of firefox as a precaution.

Packet Storm Security Advisories
Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2011-042 - Security issues were identified and fixed in mozilla-thunderbird. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.17 and 3.6.x before 3.6.14, Thunderbird before 3.1.8, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.12 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors. Buffer overflow in Mozilla Firefox 3.6.x before 3.6.14, Thunderbird before 3.1.8, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.12 might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted JPEG image. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox 3.6.x before 3.6.14 and Thunderbird 3.1.x before 3.1.8 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors. Other issues were also addressed.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2010-258 - Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.16 and 3.6.x before 3.6.13, Thunderbird before 3.0.11 and 3.1.x before 3.1.7, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.11 do not properly validate downloadable fonts before use within an operating system's font implementation, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via vectors related to @font-face Cascading Style Sheets rules. The line-breaking implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.16 and 3.6.x before 3.6.13, Thunderbird before 3.0.11 and 3.1.x before 3.1.7, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.11 on Windows does not properly handle long strings, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted document.write call that triggers a buffer over-read. Various other vulnerabilities have been addressed in Mozilla Thunderbird.
