Hack a Day
Ok, you’ve finished your project, you’ve taken great notes along the way and photographed every step. Now you want to share. Where will you post it? There are a lot of options out there, private hosting, Hackaday, instructables, and tons of others. How can you decide? Here are some handy break downs to help you [...]

Hi!
I hope you guys could answer me on this little question!
I know this has been asked hundreds of times but I want an updated answer not one from 2007 etc..
I know all are recomending the Alfa AWUS036H, but 802.11n is on it's way into the marked now so im wondering if there is anything else that have full support for everything (aireplay-ng options and stabilty + 802.11n(for the future))
So is this the adapter to choose AWUS050NH?
Also I dont want a 2000mw adapter cause it sounds hazzardly....
another question: is this just a hoax or is this the real deal --> h**p://cgi.ebay.com/ALPA-AWUS-036EH-USB-WIFI-G-54Mbps-Wireless-Network-Card_W0QQitemZ330412528015QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item4cee1f118f]

I am relatively new to BT, and am currently using BT3.
Maybe this is more of a Linux question, but I'm a newbie at that as well.
I thought I would try to upgrade WireShark to the latest release. This, it turns out involved installing a few pre-reqs. One in particular is pixman. I had downloaded and went through the install of pixman-1.10.0. I then tried to rebuild the latest Wireshark, and get a message saying pixman-1.12.0 is required. So, I got that one and installed. Rebuilding Wireshark gives a message about find pixman 1.10.0.
So, the question is, how do I go about removing pixman-1.10.0 so that pixman-1.12.0 will be found by Wireshark? (at least that's what I'm assuming hast to be done.)
Thanks.

Hack a Day
Like many projects, this one started with a harmless question. “Will lava lamps work in a high-gravity environment such as Jupiter?”. Well, as it turns out, this harmless question was not so easily answered. The only real solution was to test and prove for sure. To do this, [Neil Fraser] built a centrifuge in his [...]

Greetings everyone.
Just had, hopefully, a simple question regarding BT4 and BASE.
For our testing purposes, we installed BT4 and are testing some stuff out, including Snort and BASE.
We had no problems getting snort, mysql and BASE up and running. Everythign is working well, except when in the BASE interface and you click on "GRAPH ALERT DATA", we get the following error:
PHP ERROR: PHP build incomplete: the prerequisite GD support required to generate graphs was not built into PHP. Please recompile PHP with the necessary library (--with-gd)
Simple enough in that it looks like PHP needs to be recompiled with the appropriate options.
Now, my main question is, what is the best way to do this on Backtrack so I dont break anything?
Anyone have any recommendations on how to do so?
I appreciate it.

i know this might sound pretty noobish to some of you professionals, but what is the best way to determine what exploits will work on a victim machine. i know nmap is good for finding ports but what is the method everyone uses to know what exploit to choose that will comply. i am running boxs with win xp sp2 and sp3 and my host with bt4 final.

this wasent the question i was going to ask. i was going to ask why my wifi wasent working when it worked in bt4 pre final but as i was typing the question i remembered my wifi led never changed color with pre final so i tested it thats working fine i figured out on my own how to get the ethernet working.
so now my question is how do i install flash player 10 for youtube videos
theres a drop down list that says taz apt other linux filetypes ect
im not sure which type to pick
do i need to have bt4 installed for it to even download the file
and if so whats the easiest way to dual boot with windows 7
windows 7 will be on the 140 gb partion
and bt4 on the 10 gb partion
thanks for your time and effort in posting a reply
i seem to have forgotten alot i have learned which hopefully ill remember by exploring this great new final release

I have a laptop that supports 1600x900 but i cann't for the life of me get this within BT4 in vmware. I can get other large sizes.
Im using the latest BT4 vmware image.
I have tried the usual editing xorg.conf and xrandr etc.
Can the vmware tools support my resolution?
I have Ubuntu 10.x in vmware supporting 1600x900 and it looks beautiful!
Any suggestions on what to try next?

Hello,
well,i'm new onto bt place,a great package imho to learn.
i'm not here to post problems, wrong place posts etc..
i'm a kind of newbie into wifi reverse,my location didn't allowed to test it in real mode.
my question is simple, after reading many tutorials and vids, something is not answered for me.
If i hack a wep,wpa (with easy pass),may i able to gain access to the weak host..files?(i mean the guy or girl sharing his AP with weak pw).
how to get access to his computer once wifi hacked?
well,i dont except a vidz tut to do it ;) but what to do if so.
thanks!!

I know it's a purely cosmetic question, but has anyone found a desktop app dock that works well with BT4 Final? Can't seem to find any on google or forum search that work with KDE3 debian
If this is the wrong section, i apologize, please move.

I know everyone is sick of the, is my wireless card supported. I know mine is but I cant get it to work. And before you get mad I have already tried lots of different things. Its brand is belkin, its ralink and rt73
No matter what I do I can't get it to work. I tried doing a driver install and I when I get to the 'make' command, I get an error about the /usr/src/linux (cant remember number)
there is a folder there. I am on backtrack 3 final btw and my card is USB. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

Hi! :)
I am trying to build my own wordlist and I have the following problem:
When I press
Code:
cat passwordlist.txt | pw-inspector -m 3 -M 63 > wpaList.txt
in order to remove the very big and small passwords, I take this:
command pw-inspector not found :(
Is the command written wrong?:confused::confused:

Hi there.
I have one simple question and I hope you can help me ;)
It's about MD5.
What charset is accepted to be converted to MD5?
So.... you can convert "12345abcde" into MD5, but you also can convert "123.&)?-/1234" into MD5, right?
So.... is it possible to convert the whole ASCII-Charset into MD5?
Or is it just possible, for example, to convert from ASCII #032 - #128 ?
#000 - #031 aren't even Keys, they are just commands. So i think, the algorythm must have some range with chars that are accepted for converting.
My question now: What are these chars?
I'm currently starting to develop a good GRID for bruteforcing MD5-Keys and I need to know that x_x
Thanks
