Hack a Day
In a decision we completely agree with, these industrious young women decided that playing in the rain would only be more fun if it included an interactive light show. They wanted the rain itself to cause LEDs in their umbrella to light up. To achieve this, they put piezo sensors on each of the 8 [...]

Chaos Communication Congress 27th (27C3) 2010 Abstract: Out of the news section of the C3D2 radio programme we've compiled an entertaining game show, an Internet-based multiplayer "Who becomes millionaire?" challenge. The audience and folks on the peace missions are asked to help the players. From the collected news items of our monthly radio show we've generated a game show somewhat inspired by "Who becomes millionaire?" but multi player. The questions cover all types of net-news we've found interesting to mention in our radio show.

Chaos Communication Congress 28th (28C3) 2011 Abstract: The Penta News Game Show rehashes a collection of absurd, day-to-day news items of 2011 to entertain the audience, let the Net participate, and make it's winners heroes. The Penta News Game Show rehashes a collection of absurd, day-to-day news items of 2011. The contestants will have to answer 42 questions for your entertainment. If they can't answer you (Yes, you on the Internet.) can help out. Get your IRC clients ready. Further, a Web browser will be of great help. If you have participated in last years show you will enjoy a few adjustments and new jokers.

Hack a Day
If you’ve never been to a chiptune show – yes, they exist – you’ve noticed the awesome visuals behind the performers that are usually displayed with a glitching NES. If it’s a really good show, that 8-bit visualization will be in sync with the music and may actually serve as a lo-fi spectrum analyzer. [Andy] [...]

Trade shows are all about attracting attention and getting people to learn about your product, so what could be better than a custom-built RC blimp? Sure, you could just buy one, but what’s the fun in that? After several design iterations, [Tretton37] came up with a blimp known as the [LeetZeppelin] controlled by an Arduino, [...]

[mike6789k] wanted to spice up his dorm room, so he built a cool music synchronized light show that struck us as being very well thought out. We have seen similar music-based visualizations before, but they tend to be pretty basic, relying on volume more than actual audio frequencies to trigger the lighting. [mike6789k] didn’t want [...]

In a project that only spanned about three weeks [Lars] built this laser light show projector using parts scavenged from his junk bin. We’ve seen the concept many times before, all you need is a laser source and two mirrors mounted on a spinning bases. The laser diode for this project was pulled from a [...]

The Science Channel has a new show premiering tomorrow night that we think you won’t want to miss. JUNKies takes a look at a group of junkyard engineers led by [Jimmy “The Junk Genius” Ruocco], who also happens to be the junkyard’s owner. From the trailer you can see below, the show looks like it [...]

Hack a Day
With Easter quickly approaching, [Kyle] decided to finally build a project that is as tasty as it is wrong. Behold, the Animatronic “Peep” show! Using nearly a dozen marshmallow Peeps, he constructed a stage for his “performers” and a seating area for their “clients”. The structure was built mostly from balsa wood and foamboard, featuring [...]

[Rich] over at NothingLabs has put together a really cool laser light show that you really must see in an effort to win a laser cutter from Instructables. His walkthrough discusses the mechanics of laser light shows – specifically how galvanometers are typically used to precisely aim mirrors in order to draw images and write [...]

[Pete] had some spare time on his hands over his spring break, and he was itching to build something. He settled on a laser light show since, after all it was spring break, and what says “Party” better than a laser light show? He glued three hobby mirrors to three small motors, mounting the motor [...]

Building LED arrays that can display all sorts of different patterns is pretty easy these days. Hook up an Arduino, do some charlieplexing, and off you go. When [Viktor] was younger he didn’t have all those fancy schmancy microcontrollers and circuit simulation software you kids have these days. In fact, last we heard, he had [...]

[Jeri Ellsworth] has been very excited about this new opportunity. She sent us a “pilot video“, so we’re assuming that there will be more to come. In the pilot, she explains how to build a musical art installation that will play music when a viewer is in position. She covers several different ways to detect [...]

[nickinoki] Made a light show using some amplifiers and an arduino. First he created a microphone circuit based around a LM386 Audio Amplifier. After amplifying the output of the microphone a second time, he uses three bandpass filters to block all but a few desired frequencies from reaching the arduino. By only letting a few frequencies through the [...]

Hack a Day
Who would have known that being given the task of planning a holiday party at a wine bar would turn into a hacking project? Well, here’s how that happened. A committee was in charge of the festivities and had decided on doing a mock game show. It wouldn’t really feel like a game show unless you had [...]

That’s right, Benjamin J. Heckendorn (aka Ben Heck) has started churning out episodes of his own Internet TV show. We finally got around to watching the first episode and enjoyed it greatly. You’ll see him alter an Xbox 360 controller for a disabled gamer, making custom foot interfaces to take over the traditional role of your right [...]

Hack a Day
Let’s face it, walking around in the rain sucks. [Matth3w] is trying to add a little whimsy to an unpleasant experience by adding an LED matrix to his umbrella. The array contains 80 LEDs that are individually addressable. This is a mutiplexed array that relies on a MIC2981 source driver for the eight rows (or [...]
