I've got a laptop running bt4 and an external monitor/tv that i would like to connect to via HDMI.
1. Is it possible?
2. What commands/programs could I use to accomplish this?
I don't expect any in-depth explanation, but if someone could at least provide me with the right tools to search for, it would be greatly appreciated
P.S. If you know of a guide, that would be fscking awesome.

Trying to get my BU-353 gps to work with BT3 USB.
I use:
gspd /dev/ttyUSB0
telnet localhost 2947
r
and this gives R=0, or R=1 alternating everytime I do "r"
also I do p, and this gives p=?
So, I dont think I have the device installed, or ttyUSB0 is incorrect.
If the device is installed it should be getting a fix, because I installed in in windows and BU-353 works fine with gpsinfo.
gpsd -V gives 2.37
Im hoping I can make this work, "plug and play", so I dont have to start making static changes to the USB setup. Also does BU-353 PnP work better with BT4?

Hi,
I have just create BT4 on my HDD using the install.sh on the desktop.
Everything worked fine. Booting and BT4 is working.
But the
Hibernate ("suspend to disk") does not work.
"suspend to RAM" does work well, but to DISK its doesn't.
What should I do?
thanks

I have a reverse-connect binary that connects back to my server on a port, let's say 2020. Because of how things work, I need to be able to monitor this port for the connecting binary, and if it occurs, i.e., the port becomes "active" send commands to the screen as if typed on the server's keyboard (I think you would call that stdin or is it stdout?).
Anyway, the binary cannot be changed, it is hard-coded to connect back to this port and this port alone. Anyone have an idea on how I can do this through an existing BT4 program or otherwise?
Thanks.

Hi friends
This is my setup for adhoc mode wlan
Quote:
NODE A
IP 192.168.1.3
NetMask 255.255.255.0
Ubuntu 9.10
mode adhoc
chipset Atheros9k
|
Quote:
NODE B
IP 192.168.1.2
NetMask 255.255.255.0
Sidux
mode adhoc
chipset BROADCOM4312
|
These two communicate very well
However if i change the scenario to
NodeA having BT4 and Node B sidux ..then NODE A is not putting the card in adhoc mode..i guess the issue with ath9k and ath_pci comes out
if i do this
NODE A sidux and NODE B sidux both go in adhoc mode but do not ping each other
and then i tried this also
NODE A Debian Etch and NODE B sidux both go in adhoc mode but do no ping each other
Please can someone tell me how to make the adhoc mode work o..as of now only ubuntu karmic seems to behave..
thanx

Hi
To me, some metasploit auxilliary/modules of oracle such as oracle_login, dbms_export_extension don't work any more.
The warnings are such as "OCI" error (ruby-oci8). Even though I've successfully installed it in new fresh Ubuntu ruby, I can't still run oracle modules
According to my knowledge, BT4 has already had ->
metasploit com/redmine/projects/framework/wiki/OracleUsage
Metasploit Framework - OracleUsage - Metasploit Redmine Interface
Any ideas?

Hey guys. I know their are multiple topics on this subject. The problem im having is connecting to my WEP protected wireless net work. Iv used many console commands and the Wicd program. It connects for about 2 seconds then drops out.
Just so you know im not bullshiting about spending a fair while searching and reading other posts. Heres the links to the ones iv tried:
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/bt4...-wireless.html
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/bac...g-packets.html
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/new...-awus036h.html

http://forums.remote-exploit.org/bt3...-bt3-beta.html
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/gen...s-network.html
Ok so we got that out of the way.
Im using a Acer Aspire One netbook with BT4 final as the OS. The stock wireless card is what im using now. It connects fine and stays connected. When i want to use my Alfa 1w with the 9dbi antenna it connects for 1 second. Enough to load one page then drops out. Im using the rlt8187 drivers in managed mode.
Its doing my head in. Everything iv seem to try has failed.
How ever one of the links i provided had a update patch from 2006 i think it was i didnt think to install it due to it being 2010. Not that i knew how.
If you wish for error reports and so on please tell my what to type and ill post up the replies i get from commands because as you can see iv been through a fair few different commands and so on to be able to remember all the outputs and post them in here.
Thanks in advance. Jesse.

whenever i put certain commands into the konsole that use my interface wlan0 i'll get this error message :
Code:
root@bt:~# airodump-ng wlan0
ioctl(SIOCSIWMODE) failed: Device or resource busy
ARP linktype is set to 1 (Ethernet) - expected ARPHRD_IEEE80211,
ARPHRD_IEEE80211_FULL or ARPHRD_IEEE80211_PRISM instead. Make
sure RFMON is enabled: run 'airmon-ng start wlan0 <#>'
Sysfs injection support was not found either.
it just started happening in bt4, to get it to work again i have to disconnect the adapeter and reconnect it.
im assuming it's only doing this when i connect to my router by iwconfig wlan0 mode managed essid.. .... . .. ..
and when i disconnect it of course im disconnected from the router but im able to airodump-ng plus other things i couldnt.
does this message mean my adapter can't multi task or something?

Could anyone send me Nessus version 3.2.1 for linux(bt4) if they have it or a link somewhere to download it? The web based version is very glitchy in my opinion and prefer the old software version that you could install, but have been looking on the web and have not been able to find a place to download it.

I picked up a mobile broadband card today from a company called Clear (those of you in Texas, especially San Antonio, should know who I'm talking about) and I was wondering if there's any way to make it work in BT4, or Linux in general? It's supposed to work fine on XP, Vista, and OSX but Linux isn't supported. I read around online about making cards work even when they're not supported. Any help?

Well, I wont say much about this computer I'm dealing with, needless to say I can't modify the hard drive contents and I don't have access to the internals.
Booted up a copy of BackTrack 4 Final onto a computer after acquiring BIOS rights. We got the password to the BIOS, changed the boot order to CD and first booted to windows normally. Then we restarted and booted into BT4 to see what we could do. I got called away and when I came back my partner in crime was pale and was looking at the BIOS. The first HDD was no longer in the BIOS boot options, we get an error (more info on that error later) when we don't have a disk in the drive.
Loading up BT4, the hard drive is still visible. It's just not being picked up by BIOS.
Tomorrow we'll be playing around, our ultimate plan is to upload a back door, fix it and give ourselves remote access from our own computers, though if it goes on erroring out like this the HDD and BIOS are sure to be flashed.
So... Any idea what might be doing this? Any BIOS settings or even a linux setting that may have somehow played with the hard drive?

Greetings everyone.
Just had, hopefully, a simple question regarding BT4 and BASE.
For our testing purposes, we installed BT4 and are testing some stuff out, including Snort and BASE.
We had no problems getting snort, mysql and BASE up and running. Everythign is working well, except when in the BASE interface and you click on "GRAPH ALERT DATA", we get the following error:
PHP ERROR: PHP build incomplete: the prerequisite GD support required to generate graphs was not built into PHP. Please recompile PHP with the necessary library (--with-gd)
Simple enough in that it looks like PHP needs to be recompiled with the appropriate options.
Now, my main question is, what is the best way to do this on Backtrack so I dont break anything?
Anyone have any recommendations on how to do so?
I appreciate it.

I have a really good Broadcom based PCMCIA card that works great in Debian (after fwcutter, older kernel) but there is a slight issue in BT4.
The card works in BT4 right after the fresh install but it sees only a half or less of APs that the Intel based card inside the laptop can see. This is odd because normally in Debian or Windows this Broadcom card can detect many more APs than any other card I've ever seen.
I know this is vague but I am looking for any ideas on how to fix this.

I am hoping you lot can help me.
I have a slight problem, I can use WepBuster in BT4 and it will see my WLAN card and won't have a problem with hacking WEP keys. Now my problem is, BT4 won't see my WLAN card so I can't connect to the internet within BT4 if that makes sense?
There must be something simple I am doing as WepBuster can actually see and use my card.
I have a: Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
Thanks for your help

i have d-link dwl 2100 ap connected to biquied patch using low-loss coxial cable it works like charm can this be done to usb dongle so that i can put the antenna which comes with the dongle far to get better range or to extend it.if yes how long the coxial cable should be.the usb dongle gives 17dbm connected 2 dbi omni antenna.?
if that can't be done.i have d-link dwl-2100 ap it acts as repeater also but thing is that you should put the root wep. i need to crack the root acess point wep.using my acess point as repeater then seat near my acess point with dongle connected to laptop.i have permission from my uncle(the root acess point is for my uncle) to do that.i wanna do this for eductianal perpose only. not for illegeal activites so i'm wondering is there a way to do that?
and one thing since d-link is an wirless acess point can i use it instead of usb dongle to crack wep ?i have permisson like i said before. any info would be helpeful. thanks man
i gooogle that and search in fourms too much but can't find answers for those question.
i'm familiar with BT3,BT4 prefinal ,BT4 final,unbunte,ophcrack.
before i finish on bt3 i got pwr in airodump-ng and in bt4 pre final but in bt4 it's zero why?is there anything to do to fix that? i have driver zd1211rw.

Hallo Community,

Hi,
I tried my best to read about how to install the driver for my intel 5300 agn on my lenovo ideapad y550p machine on BT4 but in vain.
When I do a ifconfig -a, it says there are no devices, so that means the OS has not recognized the card's existence.
I am using a USB bootup. I have the latest kernel 2.6.31...and the driver from intellinuxwireless.org.
Could someone please guide me as to how i need to install this particular driver on my system.
Many many thanks, I am sure this is going to help many users.
Thanks,

Salve ragazzi

grazie anticipatamente a tutti :D

I've extracted the .iso and have been using grub to boot the kernel and initrd, but I'd like to make a few changes to the live cd. I've extracted the squashfs, copied my /root folder to save my configuration changes and compressed it again (while in backtrack to make sure I use the proper version of mksquashfs) and re-generated the manifest, using instructions from the ubuntu community docs on live cd customization (can't post link sorry)
However, the changes I made don't show up when I boot, its just a regular bt4 desktop and none of my personal files are on it. I'm positive that the right .squashfs is being used and that it's in the right place, so I'm guessing it's the manifest maybe?
If someone can help me along I'd like to write all this up into a tutorial because a lot of people here seem to be interested in customizing live cds but haven't been having luck with things like linux-live or reconstructor.

Hi, I think this is a simple question, a request for a command. In the past I easily installed BT4 pre-final with persistent changes on a USB stick initially booting from a BT4 DVD. I am now trying to do it while booting BT4 from a bootable USB Memory stick. I followed the directions from the Infosec Ramblings website.
Following the directions, I first created the initial bootable USB stick using unetbootin and it works fine. I booted into BT4.
A dmesg command says the stick I want to make bootable with persistent changes is sdc (the one I booted from is sdb). Everything went fine when I created sdc1 and sdc2 etc. until I got to the "rsync -r" command. The instructions are for the case when you have booted BT4 from a cdrom. "rsync -r /media/cdrom0/*". I am not sure what command to put in when I booted from the memory stick. Every thing I tried lead to an error message. I am sure it is something simple, but I cannot figure out what it is. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ok I loaded BT4 on VirtualBOX it doesn't recognise my wireless card in "lspci" but when I type "dhclient eth0" it works, internet works, the only thing is BT sees it as a wired network and not a wireless network but that's not the problem, when I restart and boot with the CD before installing it it sees my wireless card in "lspci" but dhclient woun't work, nothing woun't work
when I type : /etc/init.d/networking start it saies "Failed to bring up wlan0"
and if I type dhclient wlan0 it just stays and sais "DHCLIENT on wlan0 from 255.255.255.255 interval XX"
A little help here ?

bonjours,
no wireless extension.

Hi, READ THIS OUT BEFORE YOU ACCUSE ME OF LAZINESS ... yes I HAVE searched the forums, the FAQ's and the tuts, I have googled like crazy, but it seems that my problem is so basic that no one has bothered to make a thread about it.
I already know how to properly burn an iso to a CD / USB drive, BUT my problem is the actual CD .. do you have to get a 2gb+ CD / DVD for BT4? because I only have 700mb max CD's ... I read somewhere you can split it up and use 2 CD's somehow but it was very confusing for me because I'm very new at this (but I learn fast [; ) is this possible and if so, how?
USB drive is out of the question for me due to problems with the BIOS on my lappy, but I was told that dual boot up was possible without having to go into BIOS and change settings (can someone confirm?)
If one does need a 2gb+ cd/dvd for BT4 then I plan on installing the older versions which are a lot smaller than BT4.
Thanks to anybody who takes the time to read this and/or reply
Unanswered Questions:
Then is burning onto a blank DVD disc the only way I can dual boot with BT4? is there no way I can burn BT4 onto a regular 7xx mb cd? or the "splitting up and using 2 CD's"?
And can someone confirm that you don't need to be able to go into BIOS settings in order to dual boot?

Hey guys,
I'm pretty lost guys.I need your help . Right now i have to USBs,one 8 GB the other is 2 GB.I downloaded BT4 final and booted it by unetbootin in the 8 GB flash desk. Then i get this screen with a list (i'm not allowed to post a screen shot):
1- start backtrack Framebuffer (1024x768)
2- start backtrack framebuffer (800x600)
3- ..............
4- .................
5- start persistent live CD
6- ..........
7- .........
8- memory test
9- boot the first hard disk
I didn't know what to choose.so i waited for it to load by itself and it did. Then i got this screen where i have to put this command : startx
After that i didn't know what to do?Partitions and stuff...sorry guys, but any ideas?
Note: about the USBs which one should format to FAT32 (where i put the bt4 ISO in it) and which one should i format to ex2 (where i can save my changes)? And is there anyway to use only the 8GB USB for booting and saving changes?
thanks and sorry for troubling you with me.
regards,

Here's the error;

Thanks in advance.

Been trying to get my WUSB54G V1 working for the longest time on BT4, and i'm pretty lost at this point. I knew that i had to get the supported chipset for it from p54, so i went and did that but i'm not sure what that did and how do i apply it to WUSB54G. Any help would be welcomed i'm quite lost at this point, and its been taking me weeks to do this.

Hey guys, i'm running into an issue when trying to install the 1915:2234 or V1 WUSB54G. From the information provided on ndiswrapper's wiki, the WUSB54G should work with bt4, but i'm running into a problem after installing the WUSB54G drivers to ndiswrapper. When i go to load the drivers into memory i encounter the error.
Code:
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.
after looking into the problem a bit, on the linuxquestions forum i found a slight solution (would post url if i could) i found out i might not have the right components for ndiswrapper, and they recommended to see if i had usbcore to, and after checking for usbcore, i received the same fatal warning but this time for usbcore
Code:
sudo modprobe usbcore
FATAL: Module usbcore not found.
i'm still researching the problem, but with little success at this point. Anyone have any clue where i should be looking next?

Bonjour,
