Over on the Parts People blog, [Nathan] created his own Raspberry Pi laptop. It’s got all the bells and whistles, including a keyboard, trackpad, battery, and even a 3D printed case. Of course [Nathan]‘s laptop contains a Raspi, but the other included parts are where this palmtop computer is turned into something useful. For powering [...]

This one’s a riot! [Nico] got a new computer and didn’t want to change the six power supply cords he had strategically placed around his home and at work. When we’re trying to get a relatively complex project to work we often end up with twenty windows open. When this happens we’re usually referencing multiple data sheets, webpages, and trying to write code that the same time. We’ve seen people with two or three monitors to alleviate the situation (often called a battlestation), but [...]

We have to agree with NYCResistor, the exclusion of numeric pads from laptops is a real loss for productivity. Ever try to working with a huge spreadsheet ledger without a 10-key? Chaos Communication Camp 2011 Abstract: The Electronic Frontier Foundation will discuss the legal situation that international travelers face when entering or leaving the United States, as well as various ways that travelers can safeguard electronic devices and digital information at the border. A series of unfortunate court decisions allows border patrol agents to search travelers' laptops, mobile phones, and other digital devices without limitation at the United States border. Courts even allow agents to copy entire hard drives for no particular reason -- unlike domestic law enforcement, where civil liberties laws strictly regulate and limit search powers. These searches are relatively rare, but they continue to occur and could become more routine as computer forensics gets cheaper or agents develop new ways of targeting particular travelers. How can international travelers protect themselves when they enter the United States? Seth Schoen and Marcia Hofmann of the Electronic Frontier Foundation will present their latest research into protecting data during border crossings. Their white paper, "Laptop and Electronics Searches at the U.S. Border: A Privacy Guide for Travelers", will be unveiled at this presentation. It combines legal and technical perspectives, discussing the legal situation that international travelers face when entering or leaving the United States, as well as various ways that travelers can safeguard electronic devices and digital information at the border. Since border agents' powers are so extensive, our conclusions may not be happy ones; there is no magical technical or legal solution and all precautions and approaches still involve risks and tradeoffs. We hope that our work will provide a clear, up-to-date, and thorough overview of this issue for all travelers to the U.S.

Hi,
Trying and searching for days to resolve this. Im trying to get this to work as a favor for someone but no luck whatsoever. :)
using the ASUS wl-167 usb adapter.
I have a windows vista pc, where all is working fine as soon as I plugin the usb adapter, a popup shows and the internet works..(took me a while since I am not familiar with Linux...at all). Also, I see the icon on the bottom of my screen.
Now, i'm trying to do the same on my friends laptop which is a brand new HP with windows 7. however I see no icon, have no internet yet when I go to host virtual network mapping it does see the ASUS adapter. Whenever I plugin the usb adapter I get a message that The network bridge on device VMnet0 is temporarily down because the bridged ethernet device ...... Same setting as on the pc but just cant get it to work
BTW I set both up according to the youtube tutorial by kiwi12k.
I don't know if i'm giving enough information but please help me out with this one. Maybe there is a simple solution that i'm just not seeing.
thanx in advance

I have hp 6735s laptop. I created bootable usb memory stick and CD with bt3 on it. They are both working on hp 510 laptop, but they don't work on mine!
It says that the operating systeme is up, but it doesn't show desktop. It can't find server X, which is for graphics I think. I also tried to boot knopix from cd, and I get blank screen (it also works on other computers... porblem with graphic card again).
It seems that something is wrong with recognizing my graphic card (ati radeon hd 3200).
I tried commands: xconfig and startx, but it still doesn't help.
Can somebody help me with this?
Thanks! :)

mfg, cit

Chaos Communication Congress 26th (26C3) 2009 Abstract: While One Laptop per Child is a widely known and much discussed and often heavily critized project little is actually known about the current state of its efforts. So it may come as a surprise to many that almost a million children around the world use their Linux powered XO-1 laptop in school on a daily basis. This talk will shed some light on this and other interesting developments and look at how FLOSS and global grassroot communities can make a difference in ICT-supported education around the world. Few initiatives in the ICT sector have received as much public attention in recent years as One Laptop per Child. Still most widely known as the "$100 laptop project" OLPC faced a lot of criticism and suffered some setbacks in recent years. Especially the perceived move away from Linux towards Windows cost the project much good will and many supporters from the FLOSS community. And despite the project's generally high visibility little is known about the very real progress it has made in increasing educational opportunities by distributing almost a million laptops to children in some of the poorest countries around the planet. And yes, more than 99% of them run Sugar, the open-source software originally developed by OLPC and now coordinated by the independent Sugar Labs community.
