Hack a Day
The last time you were in the emergency room after a horrible accident involving a PVC pressure vessel, a nurse probably clipped a device called a pulse oximeter onto one of your remaining fingers. These small electronic devices detect both your pulse and blood oxygen level with a pair of LEDs and a photosensor. [Anders] [...]

Hack a Day
[Colin Furze] is just showing off in this picture. His pulse jet tea kettle is built well enough to get by without help from a blow torch, but who can blame his showmanship? In fact, once it’s running there’s no flame to be seen. That’s because the combustion happens at an earlier stage of that [...]

Hack a Day
The next time you’re unfortunate enough to make your way to a hospital, emergency room, or urgent care clinic, you’ll be asked to attach a small pulse monitor to your finger. The device the nurses clip on to one of your remaining digits is called a photoplethysmographic sensor, and basically it is able to read your [...]

Hack a Day
An attentive reader tipped us off to the guys at Mobacken Racing (translation), a group of Swedes dedicated to the art and craft of putting jet and rocket engines on go karts and snowmobiles. One of the simpler builds is a pulse jet sled. Pulse jets are extremely simple devices – just a few stainless steel [...]

Hack a Day
Imagine our surprise when we learned [Bruce Simpson], who made headlines in 2003 with his $5000 DIY cruise missile, is still alive, not illegally interned in a black ops prison, and still doing what he does best: building really awesome remote-control airplanes. The first successful mass-produced pulse jet aircraft was the German V-1 flying bomb. The [...]

Hack a Day
Those following the ProtoStack tutorials will be happy to hear that there is a new installment which explains Pulse Width Modulation. If you’ve never heard of PWM before, it’s a method of generating a signal that is logic 1 for a portion of the time and logic 0 for the remainder of the time. It [...]

Hack a Day
G.I. Joe used them to battle Cobra’s evil forces. Han solo shot his first in the Mos Eisley Cantina. For years, hand-held pulse laser guns have been something that existed only in the realm of cartoons and movies…until now. German hacker [Patrick Priebe] recently constructed a laser pulse gun that looks so good, it could have [...]

Hack a Day
This pulse oximeter turned out very nicely. It is based around a Freescale microcontroller and detects pulse as well as oxygen saturation in your blood. The sensor is made of two wood pieces and allows two wavelengths of light to be shined through your finger. A sensor picks up the light on the other side [...]

Hack a Day
At roughly $20 to build, this 9 digit pulse counter is an excellent example of home built tools. The builder, [Josh] found himself repairing a device and in need of a pulse counter. With the components cheaply available, he just built his own. He says that it has a few limitations, like display brightness, but [...]

Packet Storm Security Recent Files
Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in Pulse CMS, which can be exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system. An error in the validation of uploaded image files can be exploited to upload files with an arbitrary extension to a folder within the web root. This can be exploited to upload and execute arbitrary PHP code. Successful exploitation requires authentication. Pulse CMS basic versions 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 are affected.

Packet Storm Security Recent Files
Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in Pulse CMS, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP requests without performing any validity checks to verify the requests. This can be exploited to e.g. upload or delete image files and create blocks if a logged-in user visits a malicious web site. Pulse CMS basic versions 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 are affected.
